William (Bill) Thomas Mcbride

William Thomas (Bill) McBride, 87, passed away peacefully at Hinkle Hospice House on Friday, January 7, 2022. He was born on May 7, 1934 to William Gray and Viola Barnes McBride. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Elizabeth Grubb, Irene Grubb, Ellen Parnell, Creola Myers, and brothers Charlie McBride and Frank McBride. A private service will be conducted by Rev. Terry Smith. Bill will lie in state at Piedmont Funeral Home from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, the family will not be present. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Betty Beck McBride, his daughters Karen Williams (Billy) and Jan Shepherd (Luke). Granddaughters Stacy, Leslie (Bryan), Lorie (Griffin), and five cherished great grandchildren. Also surviving are sister, Wilma Smith and brother, Don McBride. Mr. Bill, as he was so lovingly known by many, was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and on various other committees. He was a retired mechanic and welder with the State of North Carolina. He also previously worked with Davis Chevrolet. He volunteered for many years with Special Olympics of Davidson County supporting his granddaughter Stacy. During his time with Special Olympics, he received the Governors Outstanding Volunteer Award and many other local awards. He was an avid fox and rabbit hunter for most of his adult life. He even knew his dogs’ names merely by their bark. His most enjoyable pleasure in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to Special Olympics of Davidson County, 555-D West Center Street Extension, Lexington, NC 27295. The family wishes to thank the ICU Neuro medical staff at Forsyth Hospital and the medical and administrative staff at Hinkle Hospice House for the excellent care of our loved one.
