Carol Lanier Whitaker

Mrs. Margaret Carol Lanier Whitaker, 78, of Happy Hill Road died Saturday, December 18, 2021 at her home. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday night at the funeral home. Carol was born August 19, 1943 in Forsyth County to the late Donald Melvin and Grace Hendrix Lanier. She attended Reeds Baptist Church and was the former owner/operator of Carol’s Barber and Styling. She was predeceased by a son Phil Owens, brothers Don and Dennis Lanier, and her first husband Kent Owens. Surviving are her husband Gary Lee Whitaker of the home; son Keith Owens (Anita) of Lexington; daughter Penny Owens “Winkie” Speas (Tony) of Linwood; step-sons Jimmy Whitaker (Penny) of Lexington, Scott Whitaker (Sharon) of Winston-Salem, and Michael Whitaker; sister Judy Koontz of Linwood; and sister-in-law Becky Lanier. Also surviving are grandchildren Zak and Jordan Morris, Chance Owens, Cheyene Swing, Dacota Owens, Brad Owens, Nevaeh Owens; and great-grandchildren Jordan Tester, Adrian, Aydin, Scarlet, Opie, Cooper, and Jaelyn.
