William Monroe "Red" Allen age 81, of S. N.C. Highway 150 passed away early Tuesday, in Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury after an illness of five months. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Revs. David Hedrick and Ray Howell IV. Red was born May 22, 1930 in Davidson County to the late William Critten and Amanda Benfield Allen. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Lee Foster Allen; brothers, Sherman Alonzo “Jack” Allen and John Madison Allen; sisters, Mae Hege, Eller Hill, Janie Condrey, Verlie Morris, Hazel Allen, Mary Cuzzen, Velva Baity, and Jewel Brown; and one grandchild, Carly Del Allen. He was a retired night watchman for Gordan Veneer, a veteran of the US Navy, and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are sons; David Allen of the home, Dale Allen and wife Tammy of Lexington; daughter Karen Lee Allen of Churchland; grandchildren Jessica Leigh Hill and Chelsea Nicole Hill. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 3, 2011 from 6 – 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter on S. NC Highway 150, Churchland.
