Wilma Basinger Cross, 84, of Regents Center Circle, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Forsyth Regional Medical Center after a short battle with cancer. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Gerald Sanders. Mrs. Cross was born April 29, 1923, in Rowan County to Charles Lee Basinger Sr. and Alice Arey Basinger. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of Burlington House Furniture Co. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard "Pete" Cross; an infant daughter, Sallie Cross; three sisters, Onie Honeycutt, Callie Gregory and Catherine Shutt; and three brothers, Chester Basinger, Carl Basinger and Charles Basinger. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, William "Bill" Cross and his wife, Louise, of Lexington, Wayne Cross and his wife, Vicki, of Concord, Mary Isaacs and her husband, Roy, of Lexington, and Alice Muchler and Sarah Willenborg, both of Winston-Salem; a brother, Haywood Basinger of Salisbury; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
