Dr. William Blaine “Bill” Thompson, 92 of Mitchell Avenue, died Sunday March 9, 2014 at Lexington Health Care. Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday March 12, 2014 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kelley Groce and Doug Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Dr. Thompson was born in Randolph County to the late Rev. Walter Blaine Thompson and Ethel Wood Thompson. He was a graduate of High Point College and Illinois College of Optometry. He was an Optometrist in Lexington for 40 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the United States Coast Guard for four years with two of them in the South Pacific. He was preceded in death by brothers, Charles,Collin and Walter Thompson, sisters, Mildred Faircloth and Mary Ruth Minor. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Sidden “Doris” Thompson of the home; step daughters, Doris Young and Ann Hill (Dan) of Lexington; sister, Evelyn Berrier of Cary; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
