William Rudolph Koonts Sr., of Kildee Drive, died Thursday, at Hinkle Hospice House. A Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Lexington City Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Mr. Koonts was born November 27, 1923, in Davidson County, to R. B. Koonts and Lena Mittie Biesecker Koonts. He served in the US Navy and later worked as a self-employed brick mason until his retirement. Mr. Koonts was a member of Jersey Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, of 56 years, Margaret Louise Koonts; son, Jimmy Lowrey Koonts; brothers, Bob and Tommy Koonts; and sister-in-laws, Sonja Koonts and Pat Koonts. Surviving are son, William “Rudy” Koonts Jr. and wife Bonnie of Lexington; daughter-in-law, Ala Jo Koonts; granddaughter, Shelley Koonts; grandsons, Bryan Koonts of New Hampshire, Brad Koonts and wife Megan, of California, Chad Ball and wife Michelle, Brandon Ball and wife Christy; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Robie Koonts and wife Jane, Grey Koonts; Ferrell Koonts, Jakie Koonts and wife Lois, sisters-in-law, Francis Koonts and Carolyn; and many nieces and nephews.
