William "Billy" Freeman

William Meade Freeman, Jr, also known as Billy, peacefully passed away on October 26, 2023, at Hospice in Dobson, North Carolina. He was born on August 20, 1959, in Lexington, NC, to his late parents, William Meade Freeman, Sr., and Sybil Young Freeman. He is survived by his daughter Hannah Cason and granddaughter Carolina Cason. His sisters, Lori Freeman and Heather Freeman Hill (Jay), niece, nephews, and his girlfriend Donna Phillips. In pursuit of knowledge, Billy graduated from Hoke County High School in Raeford, NC, and also attended Park View Senior High School in South Hill, VA. He furthered his education with a golf scholarship at Louisburg College, where he honed his skills and displayed his dedication. Billy's professional life was marked by his craftsmanship as a carpenter and his service as a bus driver. He approached his work with diligence and pride, leaving a lasting impact on those he served. Outside of his career, Billy found joy in various hobbies. He found pleasure in riding his four-wheeler, tending to his lawn, weekend camping, and partaking in hunting and a little fishing by the pond. As a sports enthusiast, he eagerly followed Carolina football or basketball on Saturdays and indulged in the excitement of NASCAR on Sundays. Billy worked as the gasman on the track in the NASCAR Busch Series, for several teams where he made lasting memories and friendships. He was a skilled storyteller and enjoyed engaging in lively conversations with friends and loved ones. Billy had a special bond with his dogs, many of whom he affectionately named Otis. The family will receive friends and loved ones for a visitation at Piedmont Funeral Home in Lexington, NC from 2:00 til 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 12th followed by graveside services at Lexington City Cemetery. Piedmont Funeral Home in Lexington, NC, has been entrusted with the arrangements for Billy's final farewell. Billy will be remembered for his kind heart, steadfast friendships, and devotion to his loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace and may his memory be a source of comfort to all who mourn his loss. If you choose not to send flowers, the family requests that you make a memorial contribution to one of Billy’s favorite high school athletic programs; Hoke High Fighting Bucks Football Program, Raeford, NC or Starmount Rams Athletic Program, Boonville, NC.
