Wadie Gourley Koonts

Wadie Gourley Koonts, 89, of Fairview Drive and formerly of West Eighth Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at her home after declining health. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Clyde Akers. Burial will be Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Koonts was born Feb. 25, 1917, in China Grove to Albert Gourley and Mary Trogdon Gourley. She was retired from Wennonah Cotton Mills and was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford “Snip” Koonts; her son, Larry C. Koonts; two daughters, Iretta Harrison and Linda Callahan; a grandson, Randy Harrison; and a brother, Raymond Gourley. Surviving are two sisters, Margie Gourley of Salisbury and Lilly Mae Davis Of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Scott Calloway, Debbie Needham, Susan Dunn and David Harrison, all of Lexington, Jewel Lang and Kenny Calloway, both of Thomasville, and John Callahan of South Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Denise Prince, Charlie Needham, Michelle Gardner, Randy Calloway and Josh Calloway; and four great-great-grandchildren, Dawson, McKinnlee, Corey and Justin. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1242, Lexington, NC 27293.
