Virginia Roberts Lawson, age 83, a resident of Lester Powell Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at eleven o’clock from the Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. David Edwards. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Mrs. Lawson was born in Richmond County, NC on March 3, 1925 to the late Harry Roberts and Pearl Crissman Roberts. She was a retired employee of Stanley Furniture and she was of the Baptist faith. She served in the WACS during WW II. Mrs. Lawson enjoyed doing crafts and working with wood. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her step father, Strawdy Tilley, her husband, Sanders “Shorty” Lawson, a daughter, Carolyn L. Craig, a granddaughter, Kimberly Craig, two brothers, Edgar Roberts and Calvin Tilley. Mrs. Lawson is survived by two daughters, Helen Ruth Morgan of the home and Penny Lawson Hicks and her husband, Haymon of Lexington, two sons, Charles Junior Lawson and Lonnie Ray Lawson and his wife Mollie all of Lexington. She is also survived by three sisters, Reba Wallace and her husband, Ray and Helen Robbins and her husband, Tony all of Lexington, Lois and her husband, Tony of Myrtle Beach, SC, three brothers, Troy Tilley and his wife, Naomi and Clyde Tilley and his wife, Jane all of Lexington, Paul Tilley and his wife Janet of Rockingham, NC. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight o’clock at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at the home of the son Charles Lawson, 910 Becky Hill Road, Lexington, NC 27295.
