Virgil Eugene Queen, 89, formerly of S. NC Hwy 150 died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Alston Brook Nursing Home, after being in declining health. Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M., Sunday, May 15, 2011 from Smith Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Queen was born November 16, 1921 in Rowan County, to John Farris Queen and Viola Mae Orrell Queen. Also preceding him in death were his wife Annie Lorene Edwards Queen; and stepson, Terry Edwards, also his parents John Farris Queen and Viola Mae Orrell Staley. He was retired from the North Carolina Finishing Co, and a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church, having served in the U.S. Air Force during WW II. Mr. Queen enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a former member of the Salisbury Bass Club and was a former Churchland Volunteer Fireman. He is survived by a stepdaughter, Brenda Gobble of Rockwell; one uncle Howard Orrell of Lexington, and a special caregiver, Sheila Price of Lexington. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Alston Brook for all their loving care. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Smith Grove Baptist Church.
