Victor Lee Thompson

Victor Lee Thompson, 97, of Lakeview Church Road passed away Friday, July 28, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am, Tuesday August 1, 2023 at Piedmont Funeral Home in Lexington NC. The service will then follow at 11:00 am in the funeral home Chapel. Burial will follow the funeral at Forest Hill Memorial Park in Lexington NC. Vic was born on March 6, 1926 in Stanly County, NC to Fleet and Nolie Ross Thompson. Vic married Ruby Hamilton Thompson in March of 1948. They have been married for 75 years. Vic served his country in the US Marine Corp, 2nd Division, from August 11, 1944 thru August 7, 1946, during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother William Ashley Thompson and his wife Nellie; Tyler Ross Thompson and his wife Virgie; Sister-in-law Dee Thompson; Brother in law, Carmen Smith and his grandson, Zachary Kyle Thompson. Surviving are his wife Ruby Thompson of the home; son Johnny Thompson and his wife Ellen; Daughter, Cynthia Hammock and her husband Steve; and brother Phil Thompson. Vic is additionally survived by his grandchildren, Christy Morrow and her husband Eric ; Amy Kniaz, and her husband Greg; Cassie Derflinger and her husband Dustin; Great-Grandchildren Lauren Leonard, Kate and Owen Kniaz ; Brooks, Parker and Ruby Thompson; Joshua, Este, Jonny and Isla Derflinger; Great-Great Grandsons Konnor and Kyle Hurd and their father, Michael Hurd. Vic is also survived by sister-in-law Sylvia Smith and a host of nieces and nephews whom he treasured. Vic was employed as an instrument technician at North Carolina Finishing Company where he retired after 45 years. He served the local 440 Union, ALFCIO as secretary and vice president. Vic was a lifetime member of Jerusalem Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC. He served as Deacon, Sunday School Director and in many other capacities. Vic loved fishing, gardening, college basketball, stock car racing, horse racing, and spending time with his family. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Jerusalem Baptist Church at 3203 US Hwy 601 S, Mocksville, NC 27028.
