Verona (Pete) Swinson Nance, 80, from Charlotte, North Carolina went to be with our Lord on October 31, 2010. She passed away at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, North Carolina. The funeral will be at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00pm in Lexington, North Carolina, conducted by Pastor Howard Baker of St. Lukes Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to2:00 pm at Piedmont Funeral Home on Tuesday November 2, 2010. Burial will follow service at Sandy Creek Cemetery in Tyro, North Carolina. Pete was born August 6, 1930 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Lee Roy and Gordia Johnson Swinson. She was a devoted mother and wife who loved cooking and growing beautiful flowers especially violets. Her family and friends will always remember her wonderful pies, cakes and yeast rolls and her yearly cards for birthdays and special occasions. Her loving husband of 55 years, Billy Frank Nance is preceded her in death. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Julia Nance Brown, son-in-law Kenny Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina, Cynthia Elizabeth Nance of Charlotte, North Carolina and three grandchildren Laura Brown-Willingham, grandson in-law Christopher Willingham of Mountain Park, North Carolina, Elizabeth Brown-Hubbard and Harold Hubbard Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Grandson Matthew Brown of Charlotte North Carolina. Great grandchildren are Madison Willingham, Noah Willingham, and Caleb Willingham, of Mountain Park, North Carolina and Avery Hubbard and Aiden Hubbard of Charlotte, North Carolina. Her older sisters, Elenora Safford and Yvonne (Billie) Barbee, preceded her in death. Remaining siblings include two brothers, Roy Swinson of Bolivia, NC and JL and wife Katrina Swinson of Supply, NC; three sisters are Beulah Stallings of Huntersville, N.C., Ethel and husband Howard Orell of Churchland, NC and Betty Hill of Lexington, NC. She also is survived by one uncle, Floyd (Uncle Buddy) Swinson of Wilmington, NC.and 20 nieces and nephews.
