Alma Vernelle Snider Greene, age 83 of Churchland, loving mother, grandmother and a friend to all, passed away Wednesday night in Rowan Regional Hospital after several months of declining health. A funeral to celebrate her life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 31, 2013 at Churchland Baptist Church, where she was a member, conducted by Rev. Jerry Wilkes. Burial will follow in the Barnes Cemetery. The family will see friends, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday August 30, at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Fran Wagner 4436 Giles Road, Lexington. Vernelle was born in Denton, on September 2, 1929, the daughter of S. Earl Snider and Lillian Shutt Snider. She graduated from Denton High School and Ashemore Business College and was retired from the library of Tyro Middle School. At her church, she was a former Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, a former choir member, and served as the church librarian and historian. She was a member of the Davidson County Genealogy Society. She was married to Kirby Worth Greene Jr. who died in 1997; in addition, preceding her in death were her parents, brother, Thurman Snider, and sisters, Zenda Lee Hedrick and Alreta Hulin. She is survived by son, Kirby Worth Greene III (Clara Sue); daughters, Fairye Mills ( Rocky) and Fran Wagner (Jeff) all of Lexington; grandchildren, Kevin Greene, Lisa Olp (Scott), Brian Mills, Brad Wagner, Brent Wagner (Jenny), Brandi Wagner(fiancée Jake Sheffield), Kristie Trantham, and Valerie Jones; great-grandchildren, Lucas Greene, Lawson Greene, Nathalie Olp, Emily Trantham, Ella Trantham, Eli Trantham, Addi Jones, and Evan Jones; brother, Leon Snider (Carol) of Denton; brothers in law, Robert “Bobby” Greene of Myrtle Beach SC and Clayton Hulin of Denton and sister in law Evangeline “Vangie” Snider of Locust.
