Mr. Thomas Clarence “Tommy” Monk, 81, of Highland Avenue died Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. Note change in service venue: A funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Monk was born in Norfolk, Virginia June 12, 1941 to the late Samuel E. and Eva Carter Monk. A veteran of the US Air Force, he was the retired owner of Lexington Barbecue #2, and a member of Lexington Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Lavona Conley Monk of the home; son Darrice David Monk (Beth) of Winston-Salem; daughter Kera Alena Monk (Adil) of Lexington; brother Daniel Wayne Monk (Nancy) of Lexington; and sister Mrs. Helen Monk Cooper of Raleigh. Also surviving are grandchildren Mason Monk (Kayla), O’Malley Monk, Maddox Monk, and Caitlyn Monk; and great-grandchildren Oaklynn, Riley, and Noah, in addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
