Thomas McCarn “Tom” Swicegood, 93, of Michael Road died Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Alston Brook. A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Howard Baker officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. Mr. Swicegood was born on April 11, 1916 in Davidson County to the late Henry Edward Swicegood and Bertha Shoaf Swicegood. He was a retired employee of Builders Supply and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where he was a former member of the Church Council. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII and was in the first group drafted in 1941. He served in the Pacific Theater, mainly in Okinawa and the Philippines. He was a member of American Legion, Post 8. In addition to his parents preceding him in death was his wife, Undine Smith Williams Swicegood, a step son, William Douglas Williams, a step daughter, JoAnn Williams, six sisters, Eura Fritts, Lennie Smith, Marjalene Sharpe, Emma Morse, Lemma Warfford, and Evon Byerly, five brothers, Teddie Swicegood, Holman Swicegood, Archie Swicegood, Sigman Swicegood, and Edward Swicegood. Surviving are two stepdaughters, Margaret Clodfelter and her husband Tommy of Lexington and Nancy Coggin and her husband Gene of Greenville, SC. Also surviving are eight step grandchildren, fifteen step great grandchildren and five step great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the service in Pless Hall at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and other times will be at the home, on Michael Road. Memorials in Mr. Swicegood’s memory may be made to the Sandy Creek Cemetery Fund of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 S. NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295
