Thomas Jones Koonts

Thomas Jones “Tommy” Koonts, age 77, a resident of River Rock Drive, Lexington, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC after a serious illness of 2 weeks. The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 4, 2009 at Jersey Baptist Church, where he was a member, With the Rev. Dr. Michael Collier, and Rev. Morris Hollifield officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. Mr. Koonts was born August 6, 1931 in Davidson County to the late Robar Koonts and Lena Biesecker Koonts. Also preceding him in death was a daughter Karen “Katie” Koonts. Tommy was a retired truck driver with 30 years of service with Stone Container of Lexington. He was a member of the National Guard, the American Legion and the Spencer Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Frances Smith Koonts of the home, one daughter Donna Koonts of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., six brothers, Rudolph Koonts, Robert “Bob” Koonts and his wife JoAnn, Robie Koonts and his wife Jane, Gray Koonts and his wife Sonja, Farrell Koonts and his wife Carolyn, Jakie Koonts and his wife Lois. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times they will be at the home on River Rock Drive. Memorials may be directed to Jersey Baptist Church, P.O.
