Thomas Carl Hinkle Iii

Thomas Carl Hinkle, III of Vancouver Canada died peacefully on June 17, 2024 at his cabin on High Rock Lake. He was born October 5, 1942 to Thomas Carl Hinkle, Jr and Ada Lee Rivers Hinkle in Lexington, NC. He was loved by many. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Erik Lohr. He is survived by his wife, Ann Hinkle, sons Daoud Hinkle (Michelle) and Ian Hinkle (Molli), grandchildren Jaqi Hinkle, Ben Hinkle and Finn Hinkle. He is also survived by his sisters, Ellen Hinkle Sowers and Cyndee Hinkle Lohr, niece Kim Sowers Rangel (Todd) and nephew Alan Sowers, as well as his dear cousins Paul Hinkle and Mark Hinkle. Thomas loved spending time with his family, often in a beautiful setting in British Columbia. He loved traveling. After serving in US Army Intelligence during the Vietnam-era, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, making a living as an American folk musician. He settled in SE Asia, where he met his Canadian wife. He spent several years working with Canada World Youth, taking him to Borneo and Sumatra. He was known as quite the adventurer. As a teenager he rode a 3-speed bike to Myrtle Beach and back. In recent years, he and Ann would make an annual trip to Vancouver Island to camp, canoe and fish. One of his favorite pastimes was rocking on the porch of his cabin with a good book and listening to the birds. He was known as an excellent story teller and entertained many with tales of his travels. A memorial service will be held at Piedmont Funeral Home on Sunday, August 25th at 2:00 p.m.. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In memory of Thomas, donations can be made to: Black History Memorial Plot, Wells Fargo Bank, Lexington, NC 27292.
