Thomas Paul Bruff, 83, of North County Home Road, died Thursday March 21, 2013. A graveside service was held Saturday March 23, 2013 at the Lexington City Cemetery, with the Rev. Eric Disher officiating. Thomas was born June 9, 1929 to the late Thomas Alton and Pauline Medlin Bruff. He was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School and Ashemore Business College, where he was also employed as an instructor.He served in the US Army and rose to the level of Sergeant, during the Korean War. He was married to Martha Jane Leonard Bruff for 58 years. During that time he served as a deacon and as an elder on the consistory of Second United Church of Christ where he also taught Sunday school, Bible school and served as a boy scout leader. Tommy also served on the consistory of Memorial United Church of Christ. Tommy was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Buford Bruff both of Lexington. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 8. He is survived by his wife, three children and their spouses, Bobby and Myra Kernstine, Robert and Leigh Ann Bruff and Leonard and Marie Bruff. He has eight loving grandchildren, Lucas and Megan, Cole, Zachary, Hannah, Olivia, Levi and Matthew, who were cared for by their grandfather following his retirement from Stephen Putney Shoe Company. Tommy was a devoted spouse, father, grandfather who remained in the care of his family despite health complication. Tommy Bruff will be rembered for his devotion and service to others.
