Sylvia Joyce Waters, age 89, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025. Born on February 24, 1936, in Roanoke, Alabama, Sylvia lived a life marked by love, devotion, and a profound connection to her faith.
Sylvia was a beloved member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where her faith flourished and her spirit resonated with the community around her. She served as an inspiration to many, demonstrating unwavering kindness through her actions and interactions.
Throughout her life, Sylvia found joy in the simple yet meaningful activities that she cherished. She had a passion for cooking, particularly noted for her homemade bread, which warmed the hearts of family and friends alike. Sylvia was also dedicated to sending cards to those she cared about. Her love for singing and reading the Bible was a testament to her deep faith, which guided her words and actions.
Sylvia will be remembered dearly by her family, which includes her son, David Brian Waters of Lexington; her daughters, Lucretia Marie Chitty of Lexington, Carla Renee Kearns of Winston-Salem, and JoAnna Waters Nance of Lexington. Additionally, she is survived by her sister, Martha Ann Huff of Barnesville, Georgia, as well as her grandchildren: Jason, Wesley, Benjamin, Daniel, Ethan, Emilee, and her adopted grandchildren Danielle and Gabrielle. She was a loving great-grandmother to her eight great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life.
Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, Howard Jack Frost and Adell Clark Frost, and her beloved husband, Charles Thomas Waters. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion will continue to inspire her family and friends, reminding them of the warmth and compassion she shared throughout her life.
A Celebration of Life service is being scheduled for a later date.
