Sammy Holton Leonard, 80, of South NC Highway 150, died Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Rowan Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M.Thursday at St. Lukes Lutheran Church where he was a member, with the Rev. Jeffrey Hoffner officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Leonard was born in Davidson County on June 4, 1935 to the late Luther Gray Leonard and Mildred Barnhardt Leonard. He was a veteran of the U S Army, where he served in the Korean conflict and was also a volunteer fireman for the Tyro Rural Fire Department. He was a retired employee with PPG where he worked for 29 years. Surviving are his wife Nancy Gobble Leonard of the home; son Gray H. Leonard of Lexington; sisters, Don Ree Michael of Lexington; Ann Husky of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ellen Leonard and fiancé Brian Shuler and Simon Leonard.
