Ruth Virginia Stonestreet Stokes, 96, of Linwood died Friday. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Linwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Renee’ Easter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Stokes was born June 18, 1918 in Iredell County to the late Otis Columbus Stonestreet and Hettie Hinson Stonestreet. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church, where she was involved with the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School. She was a strong supporter and leader of 4-H activities on the local and state level. She and her husband Eston founded Goldprint Farm and were active in the North Carolina Guernsey Breeders Association. She was preceded in death by her husband Eston Smith Stokes, Sr. Surviving are son, Eston Smith Stokes,Jr. of Lexington; daughters, Jane Stokes Everhart and husband Randy and Clair Stokes Wylie and husband Paul of Linwood; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
