Ruth Ilene Newsome

Mrs. Ruth Ilene Cooper Newsome, 78 a resident of Hargrave Street, Lexington, died Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at 4:35 PM in Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 19, 2008 at First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Derek Boggs, Rev. J. Randy Hall and Rev. Cynthia Arnold officiating. Mrs. Newsome was born in Davidson County on February 26, 1929 to the late Thomas Cooper and Beulah Walser Cooper. She was a retired employee of South Lexington Elementary School and was a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents preceding her in death were her husband, Bobby Newsome, a brother, Lawrence Cooper, and a sister, Vernie Berrier. She is survived by two sons, Kelly Newsome and Robbie Newsome, and his wife Martha all of Lexington, two grandchildren, Ian Newsome, and Skylar Newsome, a brother Elmer Cooper of Lexington. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Doris Haywood, Jim Lovelace, and Frank Carter. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the service in the Church Parlor, and other times will be at the home of her son, Kelly Newsome of Hargrave Street.
