Ruby Gray Thompson

Ruby Gray Thompson, 98, of Linwood, NC passed away Saturday, August 22,2026 at Alderwood Hospice of Davidson County surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, Tuesday August 25, 2026 at Piedmonth Funeral Home in Lexington, NC. The service will then follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be private.

Ruby was born to John Henry and Lula Hamilton of Davie county and wa educated in Davie County Schools. She was a life-long member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Ruby Married Victor Lee Thompson in March of 1948. They were married for 75 years when Vic passed away in July of 2023.

In addition to her parents;Ruby was preceded in death by Sister Betty Jean McCullough, Brother-in-law Carmen Smith and her Grandson Zachary Kyle Thompson.

Surviving are her son Johnny Thompson and his wife Ellen; Daughter, Cynthia Hammock and her Husband Steve; and Sister Sylvia Smith.

Ruby is additionally survived by her Grandchildren, Christy Morrow and husband Eric; Amy Kniaz and Husband Greg; Cassie Derflinger and Husband Dustin; Great- Grandchildren  Lauren Leonard, Kate and Owen Kniaz; Brooks, Parker and Ruby Thompson; Joshua, Este,Jonny and Isla Derflinger; Great-Great Grandsons Konnor and Kyle Hurd and their Father, Michael Hurd. Her Nephews, Chuck and Monty Smith, and their families.

Ruby is also survived by a host Thompson Nieces and Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews and their families whom she treasured.

The family would like to thank Jennifer Watson and Patricia Sheffield, who started as caretakers for Vic and have both became part of family. The love and patience that they have shown to Ruby will always be remembered. 

Ruby was retired from Hilltop Rest Home, where she served as administrator under the director of Tuttle Enterprises. Her greatest joy was being a Wife, Mother, and Grandmother. Her home was always filled with delicious food. Ruby enjoyed hosting monthly birthday parties at her home for her family when she was able. The life she and Vic built together was built on love for the Lord, each other and their family.

She served in many capacities at Jersusalem Baptist Church over the years and was the longest living member of her Sunday School class.

The family wishes to thankthe staff at Alderwood of Davidson County for the love, support and kindness shown to us during this time.
