Robert Gurney Van Hoy, Jr., 76, of Greentree Drive, Lexington died Wednesday afternoon, October 19, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Union Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Dr. Harold Fletcher Sr., Revs. Ken Harris and T.W. Bailey officiating. Burial will follow, with military graveside rites, in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Robert was born July 24, 1935 in Forsyth County to Robert G. Van Hoy Sr. and Jewell Clodfelter Van Hoy. He was a retired driver for King Sash and Door. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army obtaining the rank of Sergeant 1st Class, having served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War, and was awarded the Bronze Star for action. Surviving are: His wife of 53 years Flora Lee Coleman Van Hoy of the home; son Donald Ray Van Hoy and wife Debbie of Sneads Ferry, N.C. ; daughters Lisa Dawn Van Hoy Knox and husband Joey of Lexington and Cynthia Ann Van Hoy of the home.; “Paw Paw’s” granddaughter Whitney Petty Harris and husband Renard of Lexington; brothers Charles Richard Van Hoy of Georgia and Francis Byron Van Hoy of New Orleans La. and a sister Martha Jo Van Hoy Haley of Wilmington.
