Robert Sheldon Eggers

April 5, 1942 — July 11, 2025

Robert Sheldon Eggers, 83, of Thomasville, North Carolina, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born on April 5, 1942, in Lenoir, North Carolina, Robert was the son of Roy Clinton Eggers and Margaret McLean Eggers. Early in his life, the Eggers family relocated to Lexington, where Robert attended Lexington City Schools and graduated from Lexington Senior High School. While in high school, he was a standout athlete, playing both tennis and baseball. His talent on the tennis court earned him a scholarship to Louisburg College, where he studied business administration. He also attended Davidson-Davie Community College, where he completed continuing education courses.

Robert served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After his service, he returned to North Carolina and began a long and successful career in the furniture and manufacturing industries. He was first employed by Burlington Industries, worked for a time at Hatteras Yachts, and later retired from Lexington Furniture after over 30 years of dedicated service.

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Roy and Margaret Eggers; his wife, Linda Branson Goodman Eggers; his daughter, Leslie Beth Goodman; and a very special aunt, Agnes Eggers Bryant.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry Eggers of Lexington; daughters Shelly Lynne Goodman and husband Michael of Colfax, and Jessica Goodman Miller and husband Dennis of Thomasville. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dr. Ryan Goodman of Knoxville, Tennessee; Heather Jones and husband Kenneth of Thomasville; Whitney Grubb of Colfax; Dennis Shane Miller of London, England; and Justin Grubb and wife Brittany of Greensboro. Great-grandchildren include Logan, Carol, and Arlo.

Robert was a passionate sports enthusiast who followed athletics at every level —from local school teams to the professional leagues. He also enjoyed collecting coins and was an avid connoisseur of anything and everything sweet, never missing an opportunity to enjoy a good dessert.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Robert's memory to Davidson-Davie Community College, supporting the education and advancement of minority students and expanding access to opportunity for all.
