Rev. Larry Peterson, 62, a resident of E. Park Avenue, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 in UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. A funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church with Mr. Wesley Brown, Preacher Bud Powell, Rev. Sam Harvey, Rev. Bobby Leonard, Rev. Noah Frye, Rev. Thomas Todd, Rev. Roy Franks, Rev. Johnny McGill, and Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Peterson was born May 2, 1947 in Unicoi County, Tennessee to the late Howard Presnell and Mary Peterson Herrell. He had attended Piedmont Bible College. He was the Pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church; he chartered the church in 1977; and had operated the Food Bank at the church. Rev. Peterson had served as a Chaplain at Lexington Memorial Hospital, Thomasville Medical Center and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was co-founder of the Davidson Preachers Fellowship and had authored the booklet; “They Said We Could Understand The Bible Better”. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was his wife, Kay Peterson. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret Whitlock and her husband Jody of Lexington, his son, James Lee Peterson and his wife Donna of Lexington, four brothers, David Harrell, Kenny Harrell and Tim Harrell all of the Churchland Community, and Tom Harrell of Lexington. Also surviving are grandchildren, Shonna Wright, Megan Farabee, Alex Peterson, Jonathan Peterson, and Jesse Whitlock, very special friends, Wesley, Kim and Melanie Brown and Connie Sneed. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of his daughter, Margaret Whitlock, 290 Evergreen Circle, Lexington. Memorials in Rev.
