Raymond Junior Smith, 88, of Park Street, died Thursday at Hinkle Hospice House.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by The Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.Raymond was born in Davidson County on May 9, 1925 to the late George Ramus Smith, Sr. and Ester Leonard Smith. He was retired from Burlington House Furniture. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the US Army, a life member of VFW post 3074, a member of Amvets post 13, and member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Runkle Smith, sons, David Smith and Dewight Shephard, brothers, Jerry Robinson and Paul Smith, and sister Helen Washburn.Surviving are, daughter, Nancy Smith of Thomasville; brothers, Steve Smith and George Ramus Smith,Jr. of Lexington; sisters, Annie Stanly and Hazel Little of Christmas, Fla., and Frances Bates of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington,NC 27292.
