Mr. Ralph Vernon Potter “R.V”, Jr., 86, of Lexington, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Hinkle Hospice House.
Born on January 2, 1940, to Ralph Vernon Potter Sr., and Clara Inez Potter. Mr. Potter lived a life defined by dedication, honor, and service. He was a devoted son and brother, a loving husband and father, and a proud member of the United States Army National Guard. His commitment to his family and his country reflected the strength of his character and the depth of his integrity.
RV was a man of many talents and hobbies. He had a love for aviation, was a member of the Tarheel Road Riders, and had a lifelong love for drag racing, and boating. He began flying in 1976, and later built his own plane. He also enjoyed his morning breakfast with his friends at Bill’s Truckstop, and he served proudly on the Davidson Water Board for over 27 years. He served over 30 years at Duke Power before retirement.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenell Potter, and an infant brother Charles Sims Potter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Vernon Keith Potter (Shelia), Michael Glenn Potter (Christy), his brother Robert Steve Potter (Angie), sister Carolyn A Potter, granddaughter Kallie Potter, two step grandchildren, Tera Jones and Kendall Church, and five step great grandchildren, Addison, Eli, Lorelai, Silas, and Arya. Along with extended family members and dear friends who will forever remember his steady guidance, quiet strength, and unwavering love.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday March 3rd, 4 PM, at Greer’s Chapel Church, 8195 Old Salisbury Road, Linwood, North Carolina 27299, with Pastor Chris Bennett and Fuller Ketchie officiating. The family will receive friends from 2pm-4pm prior to the service. Burials will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to extend sincere gratitude to the caregivers of R.V., to Gayla, Pam, and Micinda.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County or Greers Chapel Church.
Mr. Potter’s legacy of service, devotion, and faith will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
