Rachel Rimer Nance, 94, of South Hwy. 150, Reeds Community died Saturday, February 20, 2016 at her home. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Reeds United Methodist Church, where she was a member for many years, by the Rev. Duncan Martin. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home, and other times at the home. Mrs. Nance was born in Davidson County May 19, 1921 to Rushie Alexander and Lectia Buie Grubb. She retired from Burlington Furniture after 29 years of service. When she was 12, she joined Summerville Baptist Church and was baptized in Flat Swamp by her uncle, Rev. D.P. Morris. When she moved to Reeds she became a member of Reeds United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Excelsior Bible Class, United Methodist Women, the Young at Heart Club, and the Exotic Singles. Rachel belonged to The Churchland Seniors, The Tyro Seniors, The Thomasville Seniors Senior Rainbow Club, and the Gnomes Nut Club. She also carried meals to the shut-ins. She loved being with people and doing what she could for them. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Arnold Rimer in 1980, and her second husband, Taylor Nance in 1991. Also preceding her in death were 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and two step-daughters, Mary Engelein and Annie Mae Reynolds. Surviving are son Charles Ray Rimer (Margaret) of the home; daughter Patricia Sink (Kreth) of Scott Depot, WVA; step-sons Robert Nance of Colorado and Edwin Nance of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Kim Wright (Mike) of Florida, Kelly Kerlin, (Chad) of Minnesota, Matt Rimer (Barbara) of Indiana, Dr. Amanda Maynard and spouse of Ohio, and Christopher Sink of WVA; and great-grandchildren Logan Wright of Florida, Ian and Ivy Rimer of Indiana, and Hayley, Abby, and Madeline Kerlin of Minnesota.
