Peggy Ann Leonard

Peggy Ann Knighton Leonard of Pine Knoll Place, formerly of Lexington and Eden, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 in Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. She was 75. Funeral Services will be Friday at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Piedmont Funeral Home with Pastor Max Shoaf and Rev. Lamar Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Peggy was born in McDowell County, NC on February 26, 1933 to the late Charles Knighton and Beulah Burnett Knighton. She owned and operated a Hair Salon in Greensboro for many years and was a member of Clifton Road Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were a sister, Lois Barnes and a daughter in law, Vivian Leonard. Peggy is survived by her husband, Donald O. Leonard of the home, a daughter, Brenda Mull and her husband, Gary of Gainesville, Florida, two sons, Donald W. Leonard and his wife, Judy and Mike Leonard all of Greensboro, a sister, Joyce Lohr and her husband, Speedy of Lexington, half brothers, Johnny Knighton and Jerry Knighton both of Marion, NC, a half sister, Barbara Jean Rector of Morganton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tammy Thompson and her husband, Richard, Chad Leonard, Alexis Sharp and her husband, Matthew, Dana Rehak and her husband, Adam, Sarah Leonard, Zachary Leonard, great grandchildren, Addison and Sydney Johnson, Morgan and Andrew Leonard, Jason Saunders, Jr., and Kaitlin Sharp. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence. Memorials in Peggy’s memory may be sent to the Donor’s choice.
