Paul E. Ogburn

Paul E. Ogburn, 88, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007, surrounded by his family at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury after a brief illness. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Tyro, where he was an active member. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Mr. Ogburn was born June 8, 1918, in Chesterfield County, S.C., to Robert Earl Ogburn and Odessa Evans Ogburn. After serving his country in the Army as a medic in the Philippines during World War II, Paul worked as an agent for Reserve Life Insurance Co. in Charlotte and later as a superintendent for Daniels Construction Co. in Salisbury. After retiring, he continued to work on the family farm raising crops and cattle. Paul was a devoted family man. He enjoyed being outside on the farm and was passionate about writing poetry. He strived to live his life each day in a way that was pleasing to God. In addition to his parents, his brother, James Ogburn, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Jaxie Sink Ogburn; his three children, Richard Paul Ogburn, Mary Jeanene Ogburn Sink and Kevin Dain Ogburn and his wife, Stacy, all of Lexington; three sisters, Opal Ogburn of Charlotte, Elaine Davis of Charleston, S.C., and Jean Graves and her husband, Blake, of Charlotte; and one sister-in-law, Lonnette Ogburn of Winnsboro, S.C. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 4299 N.C. Highway 150 South, Lexington, NC 27295.
