Myrtle Arlene Leonard Whittington, 88, of Lexington passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Lexington Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 29, 2015 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by David Kolb, Hospice of Davidson County Chaplain. Interment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 P.M.,Thursday at the funeral home, and other times at the home of daughter Gloria Brooks on Happy Hill Court. Myrtle was born in Davidson County, February 14, 1927 to Cicero and Mae Parks Leonard. She was married to W.B. “June” Whittington, Jr. on March 23, 1943. Myrtle was a lifelong member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ, and was a member of the American Legion Post 8 Women’s Auxillary. She retired from Stanley Furniture Company. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by nine brothers, Clyde, Wallace, Calvin, Ervin, Connie, Ed, Finch, and Laurence(Buss) Leonard, and Raymond Parks; and seven sisters, Helen Everhart, Geneva Hedrick, Mary (Sis) Everhart, Tazzie Leonard, Peggy Leonard, Ethel Chapman, and Gladys Kinney. Also preceding her in death were grandson Dane Brooks, and great-granddaughter Molleigh Dublin. Survivors are daughters, Diane Barbee of Raleigh, Gloria Brooks (Pete), and Kim Myers (Mike) of Lexington, and son Craig Whittington (Melissa) of Level Cross; grandchildren, Garth Barbee,(Sara), Donna Brooks, Mandi Dublin, (Shane), Jason Myers,( Blair),Olivia Myers, Rebekah Macon,(Matt) and Jenna and Lydia Whittington; great-grandchildren Sonja and Clay Barbee, Addison and Grayson Dublin, and Harrison Myers, arriving in June, and sisters- in- law, Mary Leonard and Anna Leonard. The family welcomes flowers or memorials to your favorite charity.
