April 20, 1926 — August 5, 2009

Myrtle Smith Fox, 83, of South Payne Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Rowan Regional Hospital, Salisbury, after an illness of six weeks. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Second United Church of Christ in Lexington, where she was a member, by the Rev. Jerry Moore. Interment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Fox was born April 20, 1926, in Davidson County to John Frank Smith and Winnie Misenheimer Smith. Her husband, Charles Edward "Bill" Fox, preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1988. She was former co-owner of Fox Seafood and was employed as a floral designer at Fox Discount Gifts. Mrs. Fox is survived by one son Jimmy Fox and his wife, Tina, of Lexington; two daughters, Wanda Freeman and her companion, Gary Brierton, of Lexington, and Jackie Freeman of Liberty; five grandchildren, Jennifer Freeman, Taylor Fox, Wanda Juchnevics-Freeman, Christina Freeman and Eddie Freeman; and one great-grandchild, Isaiah Jones. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter, Wanda Freeman, on Chestnut Street. Memorials may be made to Second United Church of Christ Food Pantry, 330 N. Church St., Lexington, NC 27292.
