Msgt. Lynn Ray Snider

July 8, 1951 — September 30, 2024

Lynn was born on July, 8, 1951 to Joe Clifton & Leona Foster Snider in Lexington, NC. The baby of five. He graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1970. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 where he spent 24 years of his life doing several jobs, such as Supply and Quality Assurance, but most notably Egress (ejection seats in jet fighter planes). He retired in 1995 as a Master Sergeant with Honorable Discharge. After retirement from the USAF, he worked at Maola Milk and Ice Cream in Goldsboro , NC. And then S&D Coffee, Charlotte, NC before his early medical retirement in 2014. Lynn was preceded in death by his Dad and Mom. Both of his brothers, Joe Harold Snyder & Chester L Snyder. (Yes, Snyder. It’s not a misspelling but that’s a story for another day. Thanks, Grandma!) And his brother-in-law, that was more like a brother, Robert “Bob” W. Kepley. Also, E.R. Lanning that was like a second father and encouraged him through school and his formative years. Lynn is survived by his wife of 54 years , Alice Lyons Snider. He is her Hero, she is his Bride. They met living a block apart in Erlanger Village, Lexington, NC. Not always perfect, but if you can achieve a marriage like these two had, you’ve done something right. They married on July 11, 1970. They loved each other, their kids, and anyone else that they could welcome into the fold. Lynn is also survived by his son, Christopher L Snider (Susan Marcum), his daughter, L Michelle Lambert (Jerry), and daughter Kimberly M Snider (Richard Scarbrough). Grandchildren: Desyrea Brown (Jesse) & Christopher Snider Jr. Also, Samantha Lambert, Anthony Vaccaro, & Addison Lambert. And Travis, Trent, & Kaylee Scarbrough. Great-grandchildren: Brantley & Braeleigh Brown. His Sisters: Jackie Haynes & Myra Kepley. Special mention of his best buddy, brother from another mother, former coworker, and favorite BBQ Master: Kent Martin of the #TooTallBBQTour. Special mention of Emma Jean Patterson for her love and ability to make PawPaw laugh. And Patrick Sanchez for making PawPaw smile and being his buddy! And Chico (aka: Peanut/Peanut Butter). A little stray Chihuahua that showed up in our lives one day. And became the best little napping buddy with his PawPaw. Also, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. A special shout out to the Tennessee Cold Water Gang. Many thanks to our wonderful team from Novant Health Hospice & Palliative Care, in particular: Tiffany, Leslie, Susan, & Chaplain Linwood. You all made a difficult time a little bit easier. We have some much gratitude for the kindness that you showed Dad and our whole family. There’s a lot that could be said about Lynn. But what will always stand out is his unrivaled sense of humor. Ironically, he would be making a joke about this, if he was still here to joke about it. Our Dad worked and worked and worked. He had a strong sense of work ethic and taking care of family. He would have worked longer if he hadn’t had to retire early because of a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2014. What we can all hold onto, those that knew and loved Lynn, is that he made everyone laugh, through good times and bad. Laughter, truly, is the best medicine. And in the words of his own Dad: “People have more fun than anybody.” We will be sad. We will grieve. But we will go on knowing that we got one of the best ones out there. “To the best of us!” -David Kepley In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation in Lynn’s name to Levine Children’s Hospital, Charlotte, NC. Or W.G (Bill) Hefner Salisbury Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, or any foundation that supports research for Vascular Dementia. Most importantly, go love the ones you are with. Laugh! A lot! And dance to all of the music! See you on the flip side, Dad. Heaven will be a much funnier place with you there. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM. MSgt. Snider’s final resting place will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
