Mrs. Mildred Ann Critcher Raper, age 90, of Peachtree Street, Lexington, NC died Thursday, September 25 at Lexington Memorial Hospital. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 27 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Carl Lindquist, Rev. Lee Dukes and Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown. Inurnment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Raper was born April 23, 1918 in Davidson County to Percy Vann Critcher and Annie Fitzgerald Critcher. She was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School and Meredith College and was retired as a high school English teacher at Lexington Senior High School. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the United Methodist Women, Group 2. She was also an active member of the Charity League of Lexington. She was married to Emery Elisha Raper, Sr. who preceded her in death, as well as her parents, two sons, Vann Raper and Emery E. Raper, Jr. and her sister, Carolyn Easter. Mrs. Raper is survived by her son, Thomas Raper and wife, Jan, and granddaughters, Sarah Ann Raper, and Meredith Lee Raper, all of Wake Forest; also her granddaughter, Melissa Ann Raper Schmidt and husband, John, and great grandchildren, Ryan Schmidt and Ray Schmidt, all of Garner; her brother-in-law Olin C. Easter of Lexington; her nieces: Beverly E. Bingham and Mimi Raper; and her nephews, Olin C. Easter, Jr., Tim Timberlake, Bob Timberlake, William Raper and Milford Rogers. The family will receive friends at the residence on Peachtree Street from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, September 26.
