Mrs. Mary Jane Phelps Powell, 61, of US Hwy 64 West, died Saturday at her home after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cindy Arnold, Rev. Bud Powell, Preacher Clyde Akers and Rev. Darrell Cox Officiating. Burial will be in Linwood United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Powell was born January 17, 1947 in Davidson County, to the late Samuel Earnest Phelps and Metta Pauline Tesh Phelps. She was a member of Linwood United Methodist Church and had retired from Parkdale Mills. Surviving are her husband, James Edward Powell of Lexington, and two sons Randy Powell and his wife Annette and Lester “Bo” Powell all of Lexington. Two Daughters Lorna Hendrix and her husband Mickie and Lisa Marie Day and her husband Mark of Lexington. Also surviving are brothers, her twin Jerry Phelps, of Lexington, Roger Phelps and Kenneth Phelps of Arcadia. Five grandchildren, Leann Hendrix Smith, Dawn Hendrix, Sam Day, Daniel Williamson, and Brandi Williamson all of Lexington. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
