Mary Lee Hunter Mize, 84, of Mt. Moriah Drive died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at her home. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Robert Floyd, Rev. Gavin Pratt, and Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and other times at the home of daughter Sherry Eller on Shoaf Street. Mary was born January 29, 1931 to Mattie and Frank Hunter in Monroe, NC. After the loss of her father at age 2, her mom remarried Paul Stone of Thomasville, NC. She worked in textiles in her earlier years, and then at National Outlet until retirement. Mary was a very active participant in the food outreach ministry and volunteered at Lexington Memorial Hospital for the last 20 years. She was a devoted member of North Lexington Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked with the youth for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Alfred Clyde (Chub) Mize, step-father Paul Stone, and son Roger Mize. She married Alfred Clyde Mize in 1947. She is survived by daughters Shelia Mize Hill (Bill Hearn) of Winston Salem, Sherry Ray Eller (Jimmy) of Lexington; grandchildren Cindy Pounds (John), Michael Ray (Audra), and Alyssa Barber; and great-grandchildren, Isaiah Moore, Zoe Moore, Jordan Lakey, Carter Ray, and Marley Ray. Also surviving are sister Nancy Stone Freeman of Thomasville, and brother-in-law Bruce Mize (Diane) of Lexington. The family would like to thank special friends at Mount Moriah, Vicky Terry and Jim Rackley. Also thanks to her caregivers from Gentiva and Hospice.
