Mary Edith McMahan Koonts, formerly of Davidson County, died Saturday, February 11, 2012 while under the care of Ogeechee Hospice in Statesboro, Ga. Funeral services will be held at 4 pm Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Benny Clodfelter, former pastor of Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 17, 2012 from 7-9 pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Koonts was born July 28, 1918 and was a life-long resident of Davidson County. She was a wonderful, loving wife to her husband, Ventry B. Koonts, who preceded her in death in 1989. A member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, she treasured her many friendships within the church and community. She was a registered nurse and also had public health training at UNC-Chapel Hill. She worked several years with the Davidson County Health Department and was involved in several facets of the public Health System which required her to do both office and community work. She dearly loved her nursing experiences; however, due to neck and back injuries she had to retire early. Due to diminishing health, she was living with her daughter and son-in-law in Statesboro, Ga. A strong and caring mother, she is survived by two children, son Jeffrey Lynn Koonts of Lexington and daughter Mary Beth Koonts Morgan and husband Gary Donald Morgan of Statesboro, Ga.; brother, Albert McMahan and sister Rose Wade both of Lexington; and her only grandchild, Brandi Elaine Morgan of Statesboro, Ga. She will be missed most of all by her loving family, who will forever carry her in their hearts!
