Margaret Hannah Craven, 86, of W. Second Avenue, died Wednesday at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 15, at First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Carl Lindquist officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Craven was born April 1, 1921 in Davidson County to William Andrew Hannah and Ethel Tatum Hannah. She attended the Woman’s College of University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She was a member of First United Methodist church, where she had served on the Board of Trustees and on the Administrative Board. From 1958 to 1988, Mrs. Craven served as Secretary-Treasurer of Craven Insurance Agency. She also served as director and Chairman of the Board of Davidson Federal Savings Bank, a director of Dixie Furniture Co., and of Regency Bancshares. Her civic activities included trustee of Lexington Memorial Hospital, director of the United Way, Red Cross, and the City Club. She was a member of the Charity League, O’Henry Study Club, and Lexington Women’s Investment Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Braxton Craven and a son, John Braxton Craven, Jr. Surviving are her daughters, Dolly C. Denton of Roxboro, NC, Cynthia Hoyt and her husband, Charles, of Jacksonville, NC, and Hannah Craven and husband, David Funk, of Arlington, VA; her grandchildren: Katherine D. Solomon, Margaret C. Denton, H. Elizabeth Fouts, John D. Craven, Jack Funk, and Peter Funk; and her great grandchildren: Logan A. Solomon, and Natalia K. Edwards-Fouts. The family will receive friends at the home on W. Second Avenue, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Altar Guild at First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main St, Lexington NC 27292, Pastor’s Pantry, 208 E.
