Margaret Cathell

Mrs. Margaret Selman Cathell, age 98 of Lexington died Saturday, February 5, 2011 after a brief illness. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 12 conducted by Dr. James Grant of Tazewell, Va. Mrs. Cathell was born on July 6, 1912 in Atlanta, Ga. To Dr. W. A Selman and Elizabeth Crouch Selman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Edwin J. Cathell and her sister Dorothy Selman Craig. Mrs. Cathell was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she had been an Elder and Sunday school teacher. She served on numerous community committees over the years and enjoyed her book club, painting, playing bridge and swimming in the Yadkin river. She is survived by a son, Edwin J. Cathell, Jr. and wife Brenda Ferguson Cathell of Southmont, NC; daughter Margaret Cathell Donaghy of Boulder, CO; six grandchildren, Margaret Cevin Cathell and husband Peter Stricker of Santa Barbara, CA; Edwin J. Cathell III and wife Betina Garcia of Cary, NC; Brown Ferguson Cathell and wife Janie Chang of New York City; Selman-Hagan Cathell of San Juanico, Mexico; Mahala Donaghy of New York City and Halona Donaghy of Boulder, CO and two great-grandchildren, Isabella Garcia Cathell and Valentina Garcia Cathell both of Cary.
