Malcom James "Mal" Cope

Malcom James "Mal" Cope of Koontz Road died Sunday April 22,2012 at Brian Center Nursing Care of Lexington. Funeral service will be held At 2:00 P.M. Thursday April 26, 2012 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Davidson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held from 6-8 P.M. Wednesday April 25,2012 at Piedmont Funeral Home. Mr. Cope was born in Davidson County on August 1, 1920 to the late Marshall James Cope and Bertha Leonard Cope. He was preceded in death by his first wife Nellie Link Cope and his second wife Elsie A. Cope, brothers, Hal Cope and John Cope, sister Mary Cope Allen. He was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ, a member of American Legion Post 162, he was retired assistant fire chief with Reeds Fire Department , and was a WW II Veteran with the United States Air Force. Surviving are , sons , James Cope and Douglas Lynn Cope, Sr. of Lexington, daughter, Cathy Hayes and husband Dickey of North Wilkesboro, sisters, Betty Wardlaw of Randleman and Sadie Murphy of North Myrtle Beach,S.C., grandchildren, Timmy Cope, Amy Cope Davison, Jeff Cope and wife Angie, Sabrina Carithers, Doug Cope, Jr. and Travis Cope, 11 great grandchildren and special friends “the supper club”.
