Mrs. Louise Philpott, 94, died March 28, 2009, at Fitzgerald Health Center, Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Lexington, led by Dr. Ray Howell III and Rev. Tommy Wilson. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Philpott was born in the family home of her mother in Leaksville, NC. She was the daughter of the late lawyer, L. A. Martin and Jessie King Martin. She lived most of her life in Lexington. Following graduation from Meredith College with a voice major, she was a teacher at Robbins School. After marriage to Henry E. Hilton in 1940, she continued teaching for five years while Mr. Hilton served in the U.S. Navy. Mrs. Philpott was a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Charity League in Lexington, the O’Henry Book Club, the Lexington Women’s Investment Club, and the Lexington Garden Club. She married J. Robert Philpott in June 1984. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Erwin Harris; her first husband, Henry E Hilton in 1983; and her second husband, J. Robert Philpott in 1996. M rs. Philpott is survived by her sister, Mrs. H.W. Hinkle of Marco Island, Florida and step-sister, Mrs. John Williamson of Hamlet, NC.; two daughters, Marylyn Hilton of Lexington and Harriett Hilton of Beaufort, SC; two grandsons and their families: W. Kenneth Swing, Jr. and wife, Jill and children, Mary Louise and Winfield Kenneth: M.Hilton Swing and wife, Bridget, and three children, Harper Louise, Britton Genevieve and M. Hilton Swing, Jr. Mrs. Philpott is also survived by a nephew, Martin Erwin and wife, Jane of Greensboro and niece, Betty West and husband Jerry of Fayetteville. Additional survivors are one step-son, Frederick C. Philpott, his wife, Anne, Marion Philpott, wife of her late step-son, Robert Philpott, Jr.; step-grand children include Cabell Philpott and wife, Maile; McNair Tornow; Cameron Holcomb and husband, Bryan and daughter, Ella; Cyrus Philpott and wife, Carrie; Brooke Philpott and wife Anne; and Stephen Philpott. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Arbor Acres staff at Corpening and the Fitzgerald Health Center for their compassionate care and support of Mrs. Philpott and her family. The family further thanks Ruth Small for years of devoted service and caring for Mrs. Philpott and her continuing friendship. The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bill DeLapp at 612 Peachtree Street, Lexington, from 3:00 until 5:30 PM Monday. The Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at Piedmont Funeral Home.
