Laura Mallard

Laura Mae Foster Mallard, 89, of Reeds died Friday, June 30, 2006, at Lexington Memorial Hospital. The funeral will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Reeds Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Ackerman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Mallard was born July 29, 1916, in Davidson County to Charles Murphy Foster and Bertie Elsworth Myers Foster. She retired from Philpott Furniture Co. She was a lifetime member of Reeds Baptist Church, where she taught preschool for many years and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Alfred "Allie" Mallard, who died in 1960; a son, Harvey Eugene Stewart; a daughter, Carol Ann Leonard, who died May 6, 2006; three brothers, Lloyd Foster, Earlie Foster and Wilson Foster; and two sisters, Sallie Foster Money and Leona Foster Snider. Surviving are one son-in-law, Johnny Leonard of Reeds; four grandchildren, Maria Leonard Bivens of Lexington, Anthony O'Connor Leonard and his wife, Emily Vaughan Leonard, of Salisbury, John Nathan Leonard and Kristin Martin of Lexington, and Erin Louise Leonard of Lexington; three great-grandchildren, O'Connor Leonard, Laura Bivens and Zachary Bivens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Piedmont Funeral Home and at other times at the home of the granddaughter at 4352 W. Old Highway 64, Lexington. Memorials may be directed to Reeds Baptist Church, 180 Reeds Baptist Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295 or the Life Center of Davidson County, 601 W. Center St., Lexington, NC 27292.
