John Welborn J.W. Morphis, Jr., 89 of Choyce Street, Lexington, died Monday, November 3, 2008 in Lexington Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, November 6 at the North Lexington Baptist Church where he was a member, with Rev. Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. J.W. was born on April 12, 1919 in Davidson County to John Washington Morphis and Miranda Bean Morphis. He was a graduate of Reeds High School and was a retired employee of Piedmont Funeral Home. J.W. was a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge and the Tarheel Legion. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Dorothy Walker Morphis, sisters, Thama Morphis, and Carrie Byerly, a brother, Hoyle Morphis. J.W. is survived by his (2) sons, Ronald Morphis and wife Caroline, of Thomasville, Noel Morphis and his wife Linda, of Columbia, SC, his daughter, Ann Hedrick and her husband Bill, of Lexington, Also surviving are a stepson, John Pinion of California, and a step-daughter, Tina Lee Johnson of Texas, (2)sisters, Maxine Woodham of Lexington, and Mary Kindley of Linwood, (5) brothers, Joe Morphis of Lexington, Rev. Luther Morphis of Winston -Salem, Walter Morphis of Statesville, Frank Morphis of Mooresville, and Grady Morphis of Paris, Texas. Also surviving are grandchildren, Ginger McAdams and her husband Kevin, Gail M. Duncan and her husband Tim, Dawn Hedrick, Charlotte H. Baker, Lee Hedrick, Miranda Morphis, Carrie Morphis, and Seth Morphis, great grandchildren, Jessica McAdams, Ashley Duncan, Steven Baker and Ty Duncan, step grandsons, Shannon Pinion, and Patrick Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home, on Choyce Street.
