Judith Ann Powers Perry, 86, of South Payne Street died Monday, April 25, 2016 at her home. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 AM at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev Jamie Armstrong. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 PM at Piedmont Funeral Home. Mrs. Perry was born in Robeson County August 12, 1929 to Avery Millard Powers, Sr. and Fannie Gertrude Britt Powers. A graduate of Flora-MacDonald College, she was a retired teacher for the Lexington City School System. She was a past Worthy Matron of OES #98 where she was the organist, a former member of the Lexington Civitan Club where she was the pianist, and an active member of the Delta-Kappa-Gamma Sorority of Retired Teachers. In addition, she also spent many hours volunteering for Lexington Memorial Hospital and her church. Preceding her in death were her husband, John Uzzell Perry on October 22, 2005; her parents; brothers Matthew, Franklin, Avery, and Thomas; and sisters Rachel, Kathleen, and Louise. Surviving are son Michael Wayne (Mike) Perry (Laura) of Thomasville; daughter Ann (Tim) Sawyer of Rocky Mount; grandchildren Hannah, Laura, and Rachel; and great-grandchildren Madysen and Jayce. Also surviving are brothers Ollin and James; and sisters Frances and Mable.
