Juanita Jenkins Steed

Juanita Jenkins Steed, 90 of West 8th Ave., died Sunday evening October 18, 2015 at her home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday October 22, 2015 at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel, with Sgt . Les Ashby officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Piedmont Funeral Home. Juanita was born in Pulaski, Va. on December 18, 1924 to the late Edward Kyle Jenkins and Bessie Lee Hardon Jenkins. For over 20 years she was very active in the Community Care Program with the Salvation Army and became a Soldier for the Salvation Army at the age of 86. She was formerly employed with Lexington Drug Co. Juanita was preceded in death by her first husband, William “Bill” Harvey and second husband, Carson Harrison “Duke” Steed, Jr.. Also preceding her in death are brothers, Bascom Jenkins, Oscar Jenkins, and Donald Jenkins and sister, Winifred Smith. Surviving are son, Timothy Lynn Steed and wife Andrea of Albermarle; daughter, Billie Jo “B.J.” Stevens of Greensboro; grandchildren, Tony Steed, Bonnie Steed Byerly and husband Paul, Jacob Hardy and wife Dawn, Lisa Stevens Smith and husband Julian, and Michael Stevens and wife Marla, great grandchildren, Tyler Steed, Trevor Steed, Chase Steed, Dalton Hardy, Jamie Byerly, Rylie Byerly , Jubal Smith and wife Autumn, Rachael Stevens and Zoe Stevens, and great great grandchild, Evyn Floyd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salvation Army Worship Center, 314 West 9th Ave. Lexington,NC 27292 or to Tyro United Methodist Church, 4484 South NC Highway 150, Lexington,NC 27295.
