Joy Griffith Williams, age 79, passed away on April 3, 2026, in Iredell County, North Carolina.
Born on April 16, 1946, in Leonardtown, Maryland, Joy was the daughter of the late Irvin Edward Griffith and Rebecca Ann Morefield Griffith.
Joy will be remembered for her light spirit and her sense of humor. A natural jokester, she found great joy in making others laugh. She embraced life fully and cherished time spent with family and friends.
Joy had many passions throughout her life. She loved rollerskating, riding motorcycles with her beloved husband, and traveling—especially trips to the beach and autumn journeys to the mountains to admire the fall colors of the trees. One of her most treasured traditions was her “Friday surprises,” where she made special dinners for her family.
A caring individual, Joy spent much of her life coaching soccer and teaching swimming and lifesaving lessons, impacting countless lives with her guidance and encouragement.
She loved Heath Blizzards from Dairy Queen, a treat she enjoyed often. Joy also loved dancing and took dance lessons with Bobby.
Above all, Joy’s greatest love was her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bobby Clifford Williams; and her son, Edward Wayne Hall, her brothers: Irvin Griffith Jr., Floyd Paul Griffith, Joe David Griffith, and her sister Anna Christine Cullers.
She is survived by her loving children: Crystal Immenhauser (Billy), Todd Marshall Hall (Malinda), and Pollyann Hall (Marc); 12 adored grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Tag Long, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will hold a private service to honor Joy’s life.
Joy’s laughter, love, and light will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew
her.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations and memorials to be made to the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
