Joe Monroe Williams

    Mr. Joe Monroe Williams, 85, of Jeff Avenue, Tyro Community, died Friday, August 2, 2019 at his home. A funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Monday ,August 5, 2019 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, where he was a member,  conducted by the Rev. Matthew Miller. Burial will follow in Sandy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 PM before the service at the church in Vanderford Hall. Mr. Williams was born in Davidson County May 3, 1934 to the late Frederick Marvin and Mary Hazel Parnell Williams. He retired as the shop foreman with the school bus maintenance division of the Davidson County School System. A veteran of the US Navy, he was a member of American Legion Post 8,  and a former volunteer with the Tyro Rural Fire Department. He was predeceased by four brothers. Surviving are his wife Glenda Sue Potts Williams of the home; sons Doyle Keith Williams (Mary Ann) of Lexington, and Randy Joe Williams (Debbie) of Calabash; grandchildren Joshua L. Williams, and Preslea Crowell (Ronald); great-grandchildren Aiden, Olivia, and Noah; and special friends Jimmy and Connie Moore.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 4299 South NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC  27295.
