Jim Carlton Orrell

James “Jim” Carlton Orrell,79, of S NC Highway 150, passed away Tuesday at his home.

A celebration of his life will be at 2:00 pm Monday at Smith Grove Baptist Church, where he was a member, with Pastors Terry Smith and Thomas Frizzell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5-7 PM Sunday at Piedmont Funeral Home, and other times at the home.

Jim was born in Rowan County on November 19, 1942 to the late Roy Glenn and Evelyn Royal Orrell. Was a devoted member of his church having served as deacon, usher, building grounds, and finance committee. He was retired with 30 years of service from Stroh Brewery. Jim was Past Master of Lexington-Memorial Lodge # 473, Past Chaplin for Lexington Shrine Club, and a member of the Eastern Star. Was a devoted San Francisco Giants fan. Jim loved to serve his community by helping serve meals on wheels, love to travel, and transporting families to Shriners Hospital for Children. His Passion was his faith, church, family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who will be missed by all.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Shelby Leonard Orrell of the home, his son, James Carlton Orrell Jr and wife, Amy of Winston Salem; his daughter, Tammy Surratt and husband Tim of Lexington; brother, Glenn Orrell and wife Anne of Linwood; also surviving are his grandchildren, Jordan Surratt and wife Hannah, Kacy Jones and husband Colby, Madison Orrell and Tanner Orrell, and great-grandchildren, Beecher Surratt, Brighton Surratt and Beau Surratt.
