Jewell Carlan Ward

Jewell Carlan Ward, 94, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at the Brian Center of Lexington. She was formerly of Highway 150, Churchland. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Smith Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, by Rev. Terry Smith and former Pastor, Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Ward was born June 2, 1913 in Maysville, GA to the late Grover Cleveland Carlan and Lue Ann Harrison Carlan. Her family moved to Spencer, NC in 1925 and she graduated from Spencer High School in 1931. Mrs. Ward was a loving wife, and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She worked several years for R. W. Norman, where she retired in 1975. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, W. E. “Pete” Ward on June 17, 1991, whom she married on July 30, 1932; a grandson, Daniel “Danny” Ward; a great grandson, Aaron Simerson; and two brothers, Delmer Carlan, and Guy Carlan. Surviving are her daughter, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Ward Simerson, and husband, Donald, of Linwood; her son, Grover W. Ward, and wife, Millie, of Salisbury; four grandchildren: William “Billy” Simerson and Douglas Simerson, and wife, Myra, both of Churchland, Randy Ward, and wife, Angie of Salisbury, and Darlie Ward Simerson, and husband, Keith of St. Charles, IL; eight great-grandchildren: Jenny, Cody, and Jordan Simerson of Churchland, Katie and Matthew Ward of Salisbury, Jarrett Simerson and wife, Kristin of Fairfax, VA, and Brent and Andrew Simerson of St. Charles, IL; two sisters: Inez Carlan Reimann, and husband, Gil, of Atlanta, GA and Joan Carlan Puckett and husband, Bob, of Ooltawah, TN; and a sister in law, Ann Carlan of Spencer. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter on Sowers Road, Linwood.
